Our Galena, IL vacation

So, we got home this week from a vacation in Galena, IL with my side of the family. Needless to say, Alex and Lauren were very excited to see Gaga and Papa O'Brien and their grandparents were equally happy to see them! We went with my Grandma Betty (or GG as Alex calls her which stands for Great-Grandma) and all my aunts, uncles and cousins. We all rented a huge house that all 18 of us stayed in - yes, we like each other that much! The kids had a blast. They spent a great deal of time swimming - they were like little fish, it was so fun. Alex went fishing a lot with his dad, Papa, and Uncle Mike - I'm pretty sure Alex caught the most fish - go figure. We spent lots of time outside and the kids just had a blast with all the people. Alex worships his Uncle Mike so it was nice that Mike was able to make it from California. Alex made sure we all knew that Uncle Mike left his jeep in California and flew in a big plane to vacation. It was a very nice time and we felt very fortunate that after all these years, we still are able to all get together and take a vacation for that - thanks Grandma Betty for footing most of the bill! My grandpa Herb would be so proud of us all! As we were leaving and beginning our trek home, Alex exclaimed, "Vacations are a blast!" Looks like he's already figured that one out! Here's some pictures of the kids on our vacation - 2 of the pictures are during the "dance party" that they were having.

Alex loves police cars!

So, for those of you who haven't been able to spend much time with Alex and don't know him real well - HE LOVES POLICE CARS! Points them out everytime he sees them, which is good for mom and her tiny bit of speeding she does sometimes. Anyway - Drew has a childhood friend who is now a police officer in Forest Lake, MN where Drew's parents live. And he just happened to stop by on the 4th of July and Alex was so excited!!!! He got to see a police car, see the lights flashing, and sit in the driver's seat of the police car. Needless to say, it was the highlight of his weekend - hopefully he'll never get to sit in the back of the police car! :)

Here's part 2 to our pictures....

Our 4th of July weekend

We just got back from Drew's parents' house where we have been since Thursday celebrating the 4th of July. We had beautiful weather and we all had a great time. Drew and Alex had lots of dad/son time (which was needed as he's a bit too attached to mom currently) and Alex was able to help Grandpa Vohs outside a lot (which he loves - he puts on his boots and uses his little wheelbarrow). Lauren and Alex did some swimming, both in a little pool and in the lake that Drew's parents live on - they LOVED the beach - this was their first time and they were so excited. No surprise that Lauren loved the lake (she's pretty fearless), but Alex surprised us all and went pretty far out with dad - he was having so much fun - it was great to watch. Mom and Dad were able to soak up some sun on the boat while the kids napped and Nana and Grandpa listened to baby monitors - so we were really able to relax. And of course Alex went on some boat rides and caught some more fish while Lauren spent a great deal of time running (yes - she's practically running now) all over Nana and Grandpa's yard. It was a wonderful weekend, now we have a few days at home and then we head to Galena, IL with my family and the Vander Waal clan for our family vacation - I'll be sure to put pics up after that as well. The kids are very excited to hang out with Gaga and Papa O'Brien as well as their Uncle Mike and Aunt Kristin!! Here's some pictures of our weekend - I'll have to post it in 2 different posts....
